This winetasting is dedicated to Cantina Sociale Colli Fiorentini of Montespertoli, located in the province of Florence, Tuscany, one of the most renowned, if not the most renowned, Italian regions in the wine industry. Established in 1972 with just 23 members, plenty of thoughts, and problems to solve, but also a strong desire to excel, which has led them, after 50 years, to have 300 contributing members, 1500 hectares of magnificent vineyards, and – depending on the vintage – up to 120,000 quintals of grapes produced, thus becoming the largest wine cooperative in Tuscany and the leading producer of Chianti wine in the world, exporting to more than 14 foreign countries.
Continuous research and technological development have ensured that this cooperative is proud of the achieved results, particularly regarding the health quality of the grapes produced, thanks to the state-of-the-art laboratories available, energy savings due to over 1000 square meters of photovoltaic panels, and the total recovery of water used thanks to a cutting-edge treatment system.
The wine tasted by our sommelier is the result of one of the consortium’s flagship brands, namely Valvirginio, speaking of “La Verità,” a Chianti Classico DOCG reserve from 2014 with 14% alcohol by volume. A Sangiovese accompanied in a small part by Merlot, the result of an October harvest, followed by 24 months of maturation in wood and another 6 in steel.
